Explorer 1 was the first successful united states satellite launch. It was launched on January 31,1958 and operated by the NASA jet propulsion laboratory. The three main people that launched explorer 1 was William H.Pickering, James A. Van Allen, and Wernher von Braun. It made 1 orbit every 114.8 minutes.
Explorer 2

Explorer 2 was the second satellite to be launched from the United States. It was launched on March 15, 1958.It wasn't the same success that explorer 1 had done. The rocket carrying the satellite failed to ignite and the mission was a complete fail.

Launched on March 17, 1958 at Cape Canaveral, Vanguard 1 was a small satellite which orbited Earth. It was created to test out what a three-staged launch vehicle could do and to see what effects the environment had on a satellite and its systems in the orbit of Earth. Vanguard 1 was funded by The Department of Defense.
Pioneer 1

Out of the three Able space probes, the second probe, Pioneer 1, was the most successful. Pioneer 1 was the first spacecraft launched by NASA. Pioneer 1 was suppose to study the ionizing radiation, cosmic rays, magnetic fields, and micrometeorites around the area of Earth and orbiting the moon. Pioneer 1 never made it to the moon due to vehicle launch failure. Although it didn't do what it was intended, it still brought data back on the near-Earth environment.
Pioneer 4

Pioneer 4 is a spin stabilized spacecraft making it the first US probe to escape the Earth's gravity. It passed within 60,000 km of the moons surface. The pioneer 4 is a coned space probe 51cm high and 23cm in diameter at its base. It was made with a thin shell of fiber glass with gold wash and white stripes to maintain the temperature between 10 and 60 degrees Celsius.
Tiros 1

On April 1, 1960, Tiros 1, was the first true weather satellite was launched. It was created to take weather patterns from 435.5 miles to 468.28 miles. It was only operational for 78 days which was fewer then planned. Tiros 1 was 19 inches tall and 42 inches in diameter.

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mandkind"
-Neil Armstrong
Apollo 11 was the launch that ended the space race. It was launched on July 16, 1969 and landed on July 20, 1969. America sent Apollo 11 to the moon carrying Niel Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Niel Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin were the first two men to walk on the moon and Michael Collins orbited the Moon Freely.
